Bio
Solveig is originally from Columbia, Missouri, and she began learning the violin from her mother, Siri Geenen. She then went on to study with Amy Appold. Solveig received her Master of Music from the University of Michigan, studying with David Halen, and her Bachelor of Music from Northwestern University, studying with Gerardo Ribeiro. In past summers, Solveig was principal second violin of the National Repertory Orchestra, where she performed as a soloist on Vaughan William’s “The Lark Ascending” with Leonard Slatkin conducting. She has also attended the Aspen Music Festival and School as a violin fellow, where she served as assistant concertmaster of the Aspen Conducting Academy Orchestra, and has performed with the Missouri Symphony in their past summer seasons. An avid chamber musician, Solveig has worked closely with members of the Telegraph Quartet, the Dover Quartet, and the Cavani Quartet. Her quartet, the Evergreen Quartet, received the Gustave Rosseels Endowed Prize for String Quartet and placed second in the 2025 Briggs Chamber Music Competition. She also performed as a part of the National Repertory Orchestra’s Alumni String Quartet in 2025.
A dedicated teacher, Solveig has been teaching violin for the past ten years and maintains a studio of online and in-person violin students. She has worked closely with her mother, Suzuki violin teacher Siri Geenen, to hone her abilities as a violin teacher. Solveig received her Suzuki Every Child Can (ECC) training during her time at Northwestern University under the instruction of Ann Montzka Smelser, where also served as President of the Evanston Young Artists program, a non-profit organization that provides free lessons to underserved students in the Chicago area.
